Merete Joelsen Aune (b. 1984, Norway) works with drawing, painting, printmaking and poetry. She received her MFA from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2014. Inspired by a complementary interest in natural science and psychoanalysis, her imagery and texts explore a symbolic synthesis of nature and consciousness. Interior worlds are observed via the lens of astronomy in meticulously drawn celestial spheres or in watercolor surveys resembling remote nebulae and supernovae; sites of birth, death, growth and decay. Her most recent work Journal, borrows from John Herschel's astronomical observations made in 1834-38, to create a poetic record of her own inner phenomena.
